Railways’ Mini Rake Scheme

for Ministry of Railways | Date - 14-09-2005

With a view to facilitate the rail-users to pay lesser freight (trainload rate) for a composition of 20 wagons (covered stock), Mini Rake Scheme has been re-introduced for short lead traffic upto 30.9.2005. This scheme has been made applicable for a distance of 400 kms. The free time for loading/unloading under this scheme is 5 hours. Station-to-Station rate scheme and the freight concessions in Empty flow direction of wagons and during non-peak period are not applicable for traffic moving this scheme.

Earlier, Indian Railways have taken important initiatives for relaxation in the free time rules for loading and unloading of wagons to meet the expectations of Trade and Industry. These include - free time for loading and unloading of jumbo rakes has been increased uniformly from eight hours to nine hours, free time for unloading of tank wagon rakes has been increased from five hours to seven hours, the maximum limit of additional free time for extra shunting/placement/removal of rakes etc. has been increased to two hours, and free time for mechanized unloading of open wagons has been increased from five hours to six hours.
