Railway revenue earnings up by 14.99 per cent during April – October 2006

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period April - October 2006 were Rs. 34335.87 crore compared to Rs. 29859.44 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 14.99 per cent. The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 19907.92 crore during April – October 2005 to Rs. 23079.24 crore during April - October 2006, an increase of 15.93 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings during April – October 2006 were Rs. 9843.38 crore compared to Rs. 8811.97 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.70 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 934.74 crore during April- October 2006 compared to Rs. 678.64 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 37.74 per cent. The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs. 460.91 crore during April – October 2005 to Rs. 478.51 crore during April-October 2006, an increase of 3.82 percent.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period April - October 2006 were 3666.73 million compared to 3390.32 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 8.15 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April – October 2006 were 2015.67 million and 1651.06 million compared to 1896.63 million and 1493.69 million during the same period last year, an increase of 6.28 per cent and 10.54 per cent respectively.
