Prof. Soz reviews implementation of various schemes under AIBP and Flood Management in J&K

Prof. Saifuddin Soz, the Union Minister of Water Resources reviewed the problems and plans pertaining to the speedy implementation of various schemes taken up under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), flood management and anti erosion etc., with a high level delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Government led by Mr. Dilawar Mir, the Minister for Irrigation, Public Health and Engineering Department, here today.

The State delegation apprised Prof. Soz of progress of various schemes and period when they were likely to be completed. Prof. Soz urged the State authorities for speedy implementation of works taken-up under the AIBP and other Centrally sponsored schemes so that early benefits could percolate to the people especially for far-flung areas. The Minister also impressed upon the officers and engineers of the Ministry of Water Resources to coordinate with the State authorities in order to ensure that all bottlenecks were removed and the projects completed on schedule.

The meeting among other things also reviewed the implementation of various flood management and anti erosion schemes, spill-over works of the 10th Five Year Plan and major projects to be taken up under the 11th Five Year Plan. The Minister assured that the Centre would be extending adequate assistance, both financial and technical, for early execution of these schemes. The States authorities, on their part, should properly identify the priorities and give special attention to the remote and backward areas.
