Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) has proposed to set up a 2,000 MW Coal based thermal power plant at IB Valley in Orissa. There is a proposal to form a joint venture company between NLC and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited for implementation of both the mine and power projects. The Government of Orissa is yet to give its consent for the allotment of land for power plant and other facilities.
The estimated cost of the proposed thermal power plant is about Rs.8,000 crore. The target date of commencement of the commercial production will be available only after the preparation of the feasibility report and approval of the project by the competent authority.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
