Physically handicapped employees in coal mines

Physically handicapped persons are not deployed to work in underground and openeast coal mines. They are appointed against reservation in identified categories. Those who become physically handicapped at work are deployed to work on surface such as in water supply system, township maintenance, telephone exchange, training institutes, offices, hospitals and dispensaries. Under this category Coal India Ltd. (CIL) and its subsidiaries have deployed 886 disabled employees.

Physically handicapped employees are provided with facilities like transport allowance for attending duty at double the normal rate, specialized training according to the job for up-gradation of skill, reservation in promotion and allotment of residential accommodation nearer to the work place.

This information was given by the Minister of Coal, Shri Shibu Soren in a written reply, in the Lok Sabha today.
