The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of June 2010 stand at 198.6, 336.4, and 242.6 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 9.5%, 7.3% and 3.5% as compared to June 2009. The cumulative growth during April-June’2010-11 over the corresponding period of 2009-10 in the three sectors have been 10.4%, 12.2% and 5.6% respectively, which moved the overall growth in the General Index to 11.6%.

In terms of industries, as many as thirteen (13) out of the seventeen (17) industry groups (as per 2-digit NIC-1987) have shown positive growth during the month of June 2010 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. The industry group ‘Metal Products and Parts, except Machinery and Equipment’ have shown the highest growth of 62.1%, followed by 30.0% in ‘Jute and other vegetable fibre Textiles (except cotton)’ and 24.6% in ‘Transport Equipment and Parts’.On the other hand, the industry group ‘Leather and Leather & Fur Products’ have shown a negative growth of 9.9% followed by 7.0% in ‘Wood and Wood Products; Furniture and Fixtures’.

As per Use-based classification, the Sectoral growth rates in June 2010 over June 2009 are 3.4% in Basic goods, 9.7% in Capital goods and 8.7% in Intermediate goods. The Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 27.4% and 1.3% respectively, with the overall growth in Consumer goods being 8.3%.

Alongwith the Quick Estimates of IIP for June 2010, the indices for May 2010 have undergone the first revision and those for March 2010 have undergone the second (final) revision in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies. (It may be noted that revised indices (first revision) in respect of April 2010 have already been released in July 2010 and these indices shall undergo final (second) revision in September 2010).

Statements giving Quick Estimates of the Index of Industrial Production at Sectoral, 2-digit level of National Industrial Classification (NIC)-1987 and by Use-based classification for the month of June 2010, along with the growth rates over the corresponding month of previous year, including the cumulative indices and growth rates, are enclosed.
