PM's telephonic conversation with Mr. Justin Trudeau, PM-designate of Canada

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with Mr. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister-designate of Canada and leader of the Liberal Party. Prime Minister warmly congratulated Mr. Trudeau for leading the Liberal Party to a victory in the recently concluded general election in Canada. He wished Mr. Trudeau success in his new responsibilities to lead Canada on the path of progress and prosperity.

Prime Minister recalled his meeting with Mr Trudeau in April this year during his visit to Canada. Prime Minister noted that India-Canada relations were anchored in a common framework of democracy, pluralism, rule of law and close people-to-people relations. India attached high priority to deepening and further expanding its strategic partnership with Canada.

Mr. Trudeau thanked Prime Minister for the felicitations. Mr. Trudeau expressed his strong desire to work closely with Prime Minister to further strengthen the relationship and make progress in all areas of cooperation, including political, economical and security.

Prime Minister extended an invitation to Mr. Trudeau to pay an official visit to India which Mr. Trudeau accepted with pleasure. Both the leaders also agreed to meet on the margins of the forthcoming G-20 and COP Summits.
