One Battalion of CRPF to be made available to West Bengal Government

Government of India has been keeping a watch on the situation in Nandigram area in West Bengal and has also been in touch with the State Government, calling upon them to take urgent steps to restore normalcy in the area. The Home Minister has also spoken to the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and urged him that the State Government should take immediate steps to ensure that persons who have been displaced from their homes in the ongoing tension should be helped to return to their villages, and an environment of peace and security be created.

The State Government has asked for deployment of central forces in the State to help them to do this. Considering the overall situation in the State, the Central Government has decided to make available one battalion of CRPF to the State Government, while urging them to optimally use the State security forces, who are familiar with the language and terrain, etc., to achieve the desired objective of restoring peace and normalcy in the area.
