The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is taking action for setting up at least one old age home in each district throughout the country to ensure coverage of unserved areas. However, sanctioning of fresh proposals depends on receipt of complete documents, availability of funds, recommendations of the concerned State Governments/UT Administrations.
379 old age homes and 328 day care centers have been established and are receiving grant in aid under the scheme of "Integrated Programme for Older Persons" from the Ministry.
Grant in aid to Voluntary organisations are sanctioned/released only after getting the utilization certificate of the amount received by them previously.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
