National Policy for Children

The National Policy for Children lays down that the State shall provide adequate services for children, both before and after birth and during the growing stages for their full physical, mental and social development. The measures suggested in the Policy include amongst others, a comprehensive health programme, supplementary nutrition for mothers and children, free and compulsory education for all children up to the age of 14 years, promotion of physical education and recreational activities, special consideration for children of weaker sections like SCs and STs, prevention of exploitation of children, etc.

The Government has decided to review the said policy.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is having consultations with various stakeholders to review the policy. No time Limit has been set to revise the Policy.

This information was given by Smt. Krishna Tirath, Minister of State for Women and Child Development (Independent Charge) in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
