National Conference Of Sports Ministers Begins Tomorrow

A Conference of the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministers and Secretaries of various States will open here tomorrow to hold consultations on a wide range of subjects ranging from proposals to place ‘Sports’ in the Concurrent List of the Constitution to need for formulating and adoption of State Youth Policy and States Sports Policy etc. The Centre has already set up a National intersectoral Committee chaired by Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports for finalising a National Plan of Action under the National Youth Policy.

The Conference, to be inaugurated by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Sunil Dutt, will also discuss the sharing legislation/guidelines for assisting State level Sports Federations and the experience of implementing them by the States. The Conference will deliberate upon the measures for strengthening the existing scheme of State Sports Academy and will also review the performance under the scheme of Sports Infrastructure Development.

The recently launched central scheme for Development and Empowerment of Adolescents will also come under discussion underlining the need for support of State Governments and other stake holders in implementing the scheme. The meet would also be used to share other recent initiatives of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for empowering youth clubs and their volunteers in their endeavour for enhancing their role in community welfare activities.

Setting up of State/District Youth Centres and Resource Centres in the State/District headquarters to serve as a hub for youth activities for empowerment and to provide land free of cost for the projects by the State Governments will also be discussed in the Conference.
