NGOs to be involved in investor protection programmes

for Ministry of Company Affairs | Date - 08-09-2004

The Registrars of Companies have been asked to encourage non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at the local level to take up investor protection programmes. The Ministry of Company Affairs has noted that few NGOs have shown interest in this field. In fact, their number is less than ten.

Regional Directors and Registrars of Companies under the Ministry across the country have been asked to be selective in launching prosecutions. Those involved in cheating the investors ought to be prosecuted as per the provisions of the Companies Act. The Ministry would judge their performance on the basis of the success rate of the prosecutions and not on the number of cases filed in the courts.
