Mumbai harbour dredging port

The Government has approved a project for deepening and widening of the Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Sheva, Navi Mumbai at an estimated cost of Rs.800 crore. The project involves dredging for increasing the maintained depth, width and the length of the port channel so as to facilitate handling of vessels requiring draft upto 14 m using tidal window as against 12.5 m draft vessels at present. The project is scheduled to be completed within a period of 27 months from the date of issue of work order.

This information was given by the Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Shri T.R. Baalu in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
