Ministry of Civil Aviation Reviews Safety and security issues on the airside of IGI Airport DGCA PROHIBITS WALKING IN APRON AND TAXI WAY AREAS OF AIRPORTS FROM TODAY

The Ministry of Civil Aviation today reviewed the safety and security issues on the airside of the IGI Airport, New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Shri K.N. Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation. Representatives of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), CISF and AAI were also present.

The DGCA informed the gathering that from today walking in apron at taxiway in the airside areas of the airport will be strictly prohibited.

There was consensus in the meeting for stricter enforcement of all rules and regulations. It has also been decided that violators of rules shall be strictly punished and may even lose their right to enter airport.

The Ministry has passed on strict instructions regarding the security aspects of activities on the airside including vehicular movement, storage/placement of ground handling equipments, and movement of personnel – security staff, labour and service providers within the area.

Strict instructions have been given to check the antecedents and background of the employees of contractors and sub-contractors of airlines and airport operators. They have also been asked to maintain strict surveillance of private contractors employees/staff providing various services to airlines and airport operators. Strict surveillance have also be maintained of movement of passengers and of crew-misuse of boarding passes for unauthorized entries.

The stakeholders have been directed to be extra alert about the movement of screened cargo to and from aircraft, theft and pilferages of registered baggage, cargo etc., disposal of prohibited items detected in passenger baggage or on person and also about the maintenance of perimeter security.

The Ministry has also called for adequate deployment of CISF personnel including female personnel in aviation security.
