Migration of Indian Labourers

The Minister of State (Independent charge) for Overseas Indian Affairs, Shri Jagdish Tytler told the Lok Sabha that there are several reasons for the migration of Indian labourers to foreign countries. These include shortage of manpower in several foreign countries, better salaries and working and opportunities for savings abroad.

Shri Tytler further informed that an estimated 3.7 million Indians are working in the various countries of the Gulf. The country-wise break-up is: 14.00 lacs in Saudi Arabia, 12.00 lacs in U.A.E., 3.50 lacs in Oman, 4.65 lacs in Kuwait, 1.72 lacs in Qatar, 1.40 lacs in Bahrain and .04 lacs in Jordan.
