MTNL pays Rs. 88.59 crore as dividend to the Government

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has declared a dividend at the rate of 45 per cent on its paid up equity capital of Rs. 630 crore for the financial year 2004-05 and has paid Rs. 88.59 crore as Final Dividend to the Government. The dividend cheque was presented by Shri R.S.P. Sinha, CMD, MTNL to Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications & Information Technology here today in the presence of senior officers of DoT and MTNL. The cheque presented today represented final dividend for the year 2004-05 at the rate of 25 per cent (Rs. 2.50 per share). It may be recalled that MTNL had paid Rs. 70.87 crore at the rate of 20 per cent (Rs. 2/- per share) as Interim Dividend to the Government in February, 2005.

MTNL has been continuously, for the last five years, maintaining the payment of dividend at the rate of 45 per cent on its equity capital of Rs. 630 crore. During these years an aggregate amount of Rs. 1417.50 crore has been paid as dividend to shareholders including Rs. 797.30 crore to the Government towards their shareholding in the Company. MTNL has been making all out efforts to increase its subscriber base in the two Metropolis of Delhi and Mumbai.
