Karnataka to host 17th National Youth Festival

The 17th National Youth Festival will be held during 12th to 16th January, 2012 at Mangalore, Karnataka. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organizes every year, the National Youth Festival from January 12th to 16th, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda i.e. 12th January.

In order to review the preparations of the Festival, the National Steering Committee Co-Chaired by Shri Ajay Maken, Minister of State(Independent Charge), Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri M Veerappa Moily, Minister for Corporate Affairs and Shri DV Sadananda Gowda, Chief Minister, Karnataka met here yesterday .

During the meeting the Steering Committee decided that “Celebrating Diversity in Unity will be the theme for the 17th National Youth Festival. The Logo and the Mascot were also decided by the Committee. The Committee also decided that the Opening and the Closing ceremonies will be held at Mangalam Stadium, Mangalore. The programme for the Opening and Closing ceremonies was also finalized by the National Steering Committee.

About National Youth Festival (NYS):

The First National Youth Festival was held at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) in 1995. The venues where these Festivals were subsequently held are Kolkata (West Bengal) in 1996, Ahmedabad(Gujrat) in 1997 ,Chennai(Tamil Nadu) in 1998, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) in 1999, Gandhinagar (Gujarat) in 2000, Hissar (Haryana) in 2002 ,Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) in 2003 ,Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) in 2004 ,Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) in 2005 ,Patna(Bihar) in 2006 , Pune (Maharashtra) in 2007 and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) in 2008, Bhubaneswar (Orissa) in 2009 and Udaipur (Rajasthan) in 2010.
