Italian Parliamentary Delegation calls on Km. Selja
An Italian Parliamentary delegation under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sandro Gozi here today called on Minister of Culture &HUPA Km. Selja. During their 50 minutes meeting both sides recalled historic and rich cultural bilateral relations and stressed the need to strengthen them further.
Km. Selja welcoming the delegation said the visit of the parliamentarians will help in understanding the matters of mutual interests in the field of culture. She said, both the countries can benefit immensely by promoting and exchanges of Art exhibitions, Museum, Artisans, Fashion shows, Cinema and more people to people contact between the two countries.
The visiting delegation showed keen interest in initiatives taken by the government in empowering Youth and Women and measures to fight against poverty .Km. Selja explained to the members of the delegation some of the government initiatives in this direction like Reservation for women in Panchayats & urban local bodies and the pending reservation bill for women in Legislative bodies. She said, the government has recently launched Rajiv Awas Yojana to make India a slum free country. She said that in the Ministry of Culture initiatives have been taken recently to create awareness and love among young students specially students belonging to less privileged society about the built heritage of India by funding schools to bring students to monuments and Museums.
Mr. Sandro Gozi said there is a renewed global interest in India and India can count on us as parliamentarians to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
