International recognition for WCL Laboratory

The Central Coal Testing & Research Laboratory (CCTRL) of the Western Coalfields Limited, Nagpur (Maharashtra), a subsidiary company of Coal India Limited (CIL), has ranked extremely well in worldwide assessment among the reputed international laboratories. CCTRL participated in a recently organized international proficiency testing competition organized by Asia-Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (APLAC). As many as 65 laboratories from 26 countries participated in the competition.

As part of the competition, CCTRL conducted testing of two coal samples sent by Vietnam Laboratory Accreditation Services. The graphical and statistical analysis of the test results of this laboratory excelled in precision in all parameters, which earned an international recognition for the laboratory.

CCTRL was one among the four laboratories in India registered with National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL), Government of India, for the competition. It is the only NABL accredited laboratory with international standard of ISO/IEC-17025 in CIL.
