Indian Railways will be launching the scheme of E-ticketing from 12th August 2005, to begin with as a pilot for trains 2005/2011 NDLS-KLK Shatabdi Express and 2006/2012 KLK-NDLS Shatabdi Express. With E-ticketing, Indian Railways are doing away with the need for carrying the regular hard paper ticket.
In this scheme, the photo identity card of the traveler along with the print-out of the Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) will constitute authority to travel on the train. The service can be availed by the customer from the website www.irctc.co.in duly selecting the “E-ticket” option after login. While booking, the passenger has to give the details of any one of the photo identity cards i.e. (a) Voter Identity Card, (b) Passport, (c) PAN Card, (d) Driving License, (e) Central/State Govt. issued employee ID cards, (f) For Non – Indians, their Passport will be authorized to ID.
The payment options for E-Ticket on the website will consist of internet banking facilities offered by 15 major Banks in India and also the existing Cash Card payment option. The passenger has to necessarily carry the same photo identity card as given during the booking along with the ERS.
If the passenger is not able to carry the ERS but is carrying the proper identity card as given during booking, he can perform the journey after paying a charge of Rs. 50/- per ticket to the ticket examiner as penalty, if his name is available on the chart. He must also carry a platform ticket with him, in case the ERS is not available with him.
If the name is not available on the chart, he is not authorized to board the train and the case will be treated as ticket less travel. If, at the time of booking, the status is WL (is neither Confirmed nor RAC) the ticket will not be booked i.e. E-ticket will be available only for Confirmed/RAC tickets at this point of time.
E-tickets can be cancelled only through Internet till chart preparation of the train (which is normally 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the train starting station). Cancellation is not allowed at face-to-face Railway Counters. Cancellation would be confirmed online and the refund would be credited back to the account used for booking as for normal Internet tickets. If there is any partial cancellation of ticket the user should ensure that the modified ERS is printed separately as for the original ticket.
For any claims on E-tickets to be cancelled after the preparation of reservation charts, the user has to send an e-mail at the earliest possible time to [email protected] giving full details of the ticket and stating the claim, which would then be processed by IRCTC with the Railway administration, offline and refunds as sanctioned by Railways, would be credited back to the user’s account.
