India and Sweden to increase cultural exchange

India and Sweden have decided to enhance the level of cultural exchange and to hold more events to familiarize people various aspects of culture of the countries. Artists from various streams will pay bilateral visits more often with this purpose and possibilities of holding Indo-Swiss cultural, theatre festival will be explored This was decided in a meeting between Smt. Ambika Soni, Minister for Tourism and Culture and visiting Swedish Minister for Education, Research & Culture, Mr. Leif Pagrotsky, here today.

Smt. Soni apprised the Swedish Minister of various measures being taken by the Indian government to preserve cultural heritage and monuments. She said that the Government is working aggressively to promote private-public partnership in the area of tourism and culture. She added that Indian economic conditions are very much favourably for foreign investment and in tourism sectors, 100% investment is allowed. The Minister said that Swedish entrepreneur could take the advantage and invests in India.

The visiting Swedish Minister, Mr. Leif Pagrotsky expressed his keenness to share expertise in tourism promotion and strengthen cultural ties by organizing events on regular basis.
