India and Maldives Discusse Bilateral Issues

Shri Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs called on the President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed today and discussed the ways to further strengthen the multifaceted-relations between the two countries during his official visit to Maldives. Both the dignitaries discussed the bilateral issues relating to manpower, particularly in health and education sectors, investment opportunities, increasing the volume of trade with the states in southern India, aquaculture for Prawn; export opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs in Maldives; medical insurance for Maldivians in India, security issues particularly extremism and piracy in the region. Shri Ravi also thanked the President for his participation at the CWG Opening Ceremony.

President Nasheed emphasised the importance of Coastal Transport System in the SAARC region.

Shri Ravi also had a separate meeting with his counterpart Mr.Hassan Latheef and discussed issues relating to the need for signing of MoU for cooperating on expatriate employees as well as issues relating to cooperating in sports.
