Improvement in drainage system

The Government of India would provide funds for drainage development schemes in critical areas under "Flood Management Programme"- a state sector scheme during XI Plan, for which detailed guidelines for providing central assistance to the State Governments have already been issued by the Ministry of Water Resources on 27.12.2007 to all states.

A scheme namely 'Improvement of South Saraswati River (both upper & lower portion) from offtake (chainage 0.00) at Nasibpur, Distt. Hooghly to outfall (chainage 1410.00) at Sankrail, Distt. Howrah' has been received from the Government of West Bengal and included under "Flood Management Programme" for central assistance. 1st installment of Rs.1.00 crore has been released to the State Government of West Bengal by Ministry of Finance on 31.3.2008.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Water Resources, Shri Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav in response to a question by Shri Ganesh Singh and Shri G.M. Siddeswara in the Lok Sabha today.
