Implementation of Scheme on Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries for continuation of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture’ in the 11th Plan with an outlay of Rs.300.00 crore. Under the scheme, 160,000 hectares of water area will be developed for aquaculture through adoption of modern fish farming practices. The productivity of ponds and tanks covered under the scheme is expected to go up from the present average productivity level of 2500 kg per hectare to 3000 kg per hectare by the end of the Eleventh Plan.
