Implementation of NREGA in Arunachal Pradesh

In Arunachal Pradesh, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) during 2006-07 was initially launched in one district and has further been extended to 2 more districts during the current financial year. During the first year of its implementation, 0.17 lakh households demanded employment and all of them have been provided employment.

The number of person day of employment provided in the State is 4.53 lakh. The average person days of employment provided in a district stands at 4.53 lakh compared to the national average of 36.47 lakh person days. Of them, 30.02% are provided to women and 100% to members of ST. The employment provided was on 496 works, of which 397 number of works have been completed. The average number of works taken up in a district is 496 against the national average of 3,581. The average number of households provided employment in a district of the State is 16,926, while the National Average stands at 91,685.

An amount of Rs. 12.11 crore was released to the State during 2006-07. Up to January 2007, Rs.2.21 crore was utilized, which is 18.27% of the total availability.

The expenditure on wages stood at 98.90%, material at Nil% and on administration 1.09% was spent. The average expenditure on a district came out to be Rs. 2.21 crore compared to the National average of Rs. 35 crore.
