IAF Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Inter Command Air Force Schools Sports Championship - 07

Air Marshal JN Burma AVSM, VSM has flagged off first ever Inter Command Air Force Schools Sports Championship at New Delhi today. The champion is scheduled from 03 Sep 07 to 06 Sep 07 as a part of Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the IAF.

Besides six command teams, Air HQ team comprising of the children of air Force Schools located in New Delhi will be competing in each event. The championship is being organized by the Directorate of Education under the aegis of IAF Educational and Cultural society, New Delhi.

The championship is being conducted in five disciplines, namely; Cricket, Football, Basketball, Table Tennis and Badminton for the boys and Badminton & Table Tennis events for the girls. The participants represents various unit run AF Schools and have won in their respective Intra command tournament which were held to select the command team in each discipline. The aim of this championship is to inculcate spirit-de-corps among the children and to encourage and groom potential players for higher level of competitions.

A total of 392 participants, including 56 girls are competing for the champion’s trophy in each discipline and also vying for the overall best team championship trophy during the week long tournament scheduled to be held at different venues in Delhi. Cricket championship will be held at Air Force Station Palam, cricket ground, Football & Basketball championships at Air Force Station Race Course and Tennis & Badminton championships at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute, Subroto Park.

The inauguration ceremony of the championship was followed by a football match played between Air HQ and Training Command team.
