Home Secretary reviews flood situation in Gujarat

The Union Home Secretary, Shri V.K.Duggal reviewed the flood situation in Gujarat at a meeting of the high-level inter-Ministerial Committee here today. The meeting was informed that flights between Vadodara and other parts of the country resumed this morning. Production in the Baroda refinery has also resumed. Nine army columns have been deployed in the flood- hit areas. Six Air Force helicopters have been pressed into service.150 CRPF personnel have been deployed in Kheda. 400 more are in the process of being deployed. 80 army boats have been sent to the State. Some have already reached and others are on the way. 20 tonnes of bleeching powder is likely to reach the State this evening. Attempts are being made to make the express highway operational at the earliest. The latest reports put the death toll at 108. A close watch is being kept on the situation. The high-level Committee will be meeting again tomorrow.
