Rajya Sabha

Based on the recommendations of the Task Force under the Chairmanship of Dr. Pronab Sen, Principal Advisor, Planning Commission and the Committee constituted by the Department of Chemicals, the Government is examining the possibilities of introducing a health insurance scheme for BPL families. Under the Scheme, medicines for all diseases including cancer would be provided free of cost (up to a specified amount) to these families. A public-private partnership programme for reducing the cost of anti-cancer medicines is contemplated with the pharma industry and the cancer hospitals.

This information was given today in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha by the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers & Steel Shri Ram Vilas Paswan.
