The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has identified 43 industrial areas/clusters as highly polluted. CPCB carried out a survey in 88 major and prominent industrial clustered in the country. It brought out a report on “Comprehensive Environmental Assessment of Industrial Clusters” and identified the industrial clusters as polluted based on the Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI). The index captures various health related dimensions of environment including air, water and land. These highly polluted clusters include four industrial clusters in and around Delhi, namely Ghaziabad, Nazafgarh, Noida and Faridabad.

CPCB has been asked to take follow up action on the findings of the assessment and coordinate with the Public Health Foundation of India.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Environment and Forests (independent charge) Shri Jairam Ramesh in a written reply to a question by Shri. Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda in Lok Sabha today.
