Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), a public sector unit of the Ministry of Mines, during the last quarter of the financial year 2004-05, has achieved around 97 per cent yield from post metal in concentrate (MIC) to anode which was the highest since inception. The capacity utilisation of the smelter of Indian Copper Complex, Ghatsila, showed nearly 118 per cent capacity utilisation of its rated capacity and produced 4886 tonnes of fresh anode during the quarter. This information was given by Shri M. Samajapati, CMD, HCL in a performance review meeting taken by the Union Mines Secretary, Shri AKD Jadhav, here today.
Shri Samajapati said, during the quarter, ore milling at Malanjkhand unit has been 23.42 lakh tonnes against 22.65 lakh tonnes during the same period last year. Despite Khetri Copper Complex shutdown which was re-commissioned on April 10, 2005, the company maintained the cathode production through tolling of its secondaries and by improving capacity utilisation at ICC. Cathode produced at ICC during the quarter at 4,590 tonnes i.e. 111 per cent of its capacity.
The Secretary was glad to know that the net profit during the quarter was Rs.13.97 crore against Rs.10.86 crore during the same period last year. The company has earned a net profit of Rs.52.07 crore during the financial year 2004-05 against a loss of Rs.56.16 crore during 2003-04. Shri Jadhav asked the company to work hard and try to achieve all the MoU targets during this year. He also advised to further downsize its manpower and activate all the units to achieve greater production and productivity.
