The Government has released additional 1.50 lakh MTs wheat under the open market sale scheme in February including 20,000 MTs each for Delhi and Punjab; 15,000 MTs for Haryana; 10,000 MTs each for Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Karnataka and Maharashtra; 5,000 MTs each for Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Orissa, Assam, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

It may be recalled that in the month of January, FCI had released 1.50 lakh MTs of wheat under the open market sale scheme. Later, additional quantity of 73,000 MTs was also released in January. In February, the FCI had already released 1.50 lakh MTs and in addition, FCI would be releasing further 1.50 lakh MTs now in February.

Due to FCI’s intervention, the increasing trend in the wholesale prices of wheat in most centres including Delhi had been arrested. With the additional release in February, it is expected that the prices would ease further.
