Gold production shows growth

The gold production in the country during April-December, 2003 has been 7,019.58 kgs. against a target of 5,837.06 kgs. and 6,024.79 kgs. produced during the same period last year. Out of this Hutti Gold Mines Limited (HGML) produced 2,189.58 kgs., Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) 195 kgs. and Hindustan Aluminium Company Limited (HINDALCO) 4,635 kg.

After closure of Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML) in 2001, HGML is the only unit processing gold from ore stage. Public sector HCL and private sector HINDALCO process gold as a by-product while processing copper. During the month of December, 2003, these companies produced 1247.68 kgs. of gold against a target of 691.615 kgs.
