As per the High Power Expert Committee (HPEC) constituted by the Government, the projected investment for urban infrastructure over the 20-year period from 2012 to 2031 is estimated at Rs.39.2 lakh crore, at 2009-10 prices, which includes Rs.34.1 lakh crore for (a) asset creation, out of which the investment for the eight major sectors is Rs.31 lakh crore; (b) Rs.4.1 lakh crore for renewal and redevelopment including slums; and (c) Rs.1 lakh for capacity building.

The 12th Plan document has made an indicative provision of Rs.66,246 crore for the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) which is a State Sector Additional Central Assistance (ACA) scheme under the Ministry. It has also suggested measure to strengthen the finances of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to make them predictable as well as increase in investments in the urban infrastructure through People Private Public Partnerships.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Urban Development Smt. Deepa Dasmunshi in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
