Forensic Science Laboratories

Government has approved a Scheme under XII Five Year Plan for establishment of three new Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) at Pune, Bhopal and Guwahati & expansion and modernization of existing CFSLs at Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Kolkata with an outlay of Rs. 279.90 crores.

Government of India under the above mentioned Plan Scheme has approved the establishment of Forensic Psychology Division including Brain Finger Printing facilities in all six CFSLs. Further, the Forensic Science Laboratories located at Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Mumbai have the facilities of Brain Finger Printing Technology to assist the law enforcement agencies throughout the country for Psychological investigations.

The Directorate of Forensic Science Services under Ministry of Home Affairs is the nodal agency to monitor the functioning of these Central Forensic Science Laboratories.

There is no proposal with the Government to set up a Central Forensic Laboratory and brain mapping units in the State of the Kerala.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary in a written reply to a question by Adv. Narendra Keshav Sawaikar in the Lok Sabha today.
