12 cases of fake stamp papers, having inter-state ramification, have been registered by the Central Unit of CBI. And on the direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, thee State Governments transferred 48 more cases to the CBI. The State-wise break-up of the 48 cases is as under :

Of the total of 60 cases being investigated by the CBI, charge-sheets have been filed in 5 cases.
The Central Government has taken a number of steps for checking cases of fake stamp papers. These include
strengthening of security arrangement at India Security Presss, Nasik, requesting the State Governments to conduct regular verification of stocks of stamp papers of the authorized vendors, requesting the banking and insurance sectors to take preventive and remedial measures to deal with the problem of fake stamp papers, and requesting the State Governments to examine the possibility of technologically feasible alternatives to stamp papers.Minister of State for Home, Shri Manikrao Gavit gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
