Expenditure on Education

Government has accorded high priority to the education sector to increase the gross enrolment ratio of education during the Twelfth Five Year Plan. The Twelfth Plan will build on the momentum generated during the Eleventh Plan and continue the focus on the “Three Es“- expansion, equity and excellence.

The total plan allocation for the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) during 2011-12 is Rs.52060.00 crore (Rs.13103.00 crore for the Department of Higher Education and Rs.38957.00 crore for the Department of School Education & Literacy). Grants are released to the State Governments/Institutions keeping in view the proposals received, availability of resources and progress of utilization of funds earlier released under each scheme.
