Employment to Disabled Persons in Railways

Disabled persons are provided reservation to the extent of 3 per cent against direct recruitment quota in the posts identified suitable for them in Group ā€˜Cā€™ and Group ā€˜Dā€™ categories as per the guidelines of Department of Personnel & Training (which is the nodal department for the purpose). Some of the concessions provided for them are age relaxation upto 10 years; exemption from the payment of application and examination fees; exempted from typing qualification for appointment on clerical posts if they are found otherwise qualified and are certified as being unable to type by the Medical Board; also a pass in matriculation is accepted in their cases (instead of insisting on minimum 50 per cent marks as in the case of other general candidates) provided other prescribed conditions are satisfied.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri R.Velu in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
