Delgation from Uganda Calls on Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal today met the delegation from Parliament of Uganda led by their Chief Opposition Whip Sh. Kassiano Wadri. The delegation is on a Study tour to India from 26th to 30th July 2010.

Greeting the visitors, Sh. Bansal apprised them about the Indian Parliamentary system - the advantages of a bicameral assembly structure; the system of Department related Committees, Consultative Committees, method of their composition; the role of Chief Whips in ensuring smooth conduct of the House, etc. Sh. Bansal hoped that this visit of the delegation would act as a precursor to ‘friendship groups’ being formed with the Parliamentarians from Uganda. Sh Bansal also expressed his condolence condemning the recent bomb attack incidence in Kampala on 11th July 2010, at the time of World Cup Football Finals, which killed around 65 people who were watching the game in restaurants.

The Ugandan delegation on their part shared their information about the unicameral Parliament of Uganda. Mr Kassiano Wadri informed that every district of Uganda has a slot fixed for a woman representative. They recalled their enriching experience of attending the sittings of Lok Sabha today and said that the young democracy of Republic of Uganda looks upto learn from the Indian system.
