Declaration of Dandi as Eco-Sensitive Zone

Dandi, the famous site of Gandhij’s Salt Satyagarh, has been declared as an ecosensitive zone. The Ministry of Environment and Forests has issued a draft Notification vide S.O. 2566(E), dated 13th October, 2010 declaring Dandi and adjoining three villages namely, Matwad, Samapor and Onjal under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 as eco sensitive area.

This draft Notification proposes to restrict industrial activities, mining, large scale tourism etc., in the ecological sensitive area.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Environment and Forests (independent charge) Shri Jairam Ramesh in a written reply to a question by Dr. Thokchom Meinya in Lok Sabha today.
