Deccan Odyssey luxury tourism train

The Deccan Odyssey, a splendorous luxury tourism train, launched by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in collaboration with the Indian Railways recently, has undertaken only one commercial run so far. It was on April 7, 2004. The train is receiving bookings for ensuring season.

The train seeks to promote tourism by rail on a seven-day trip in Maharashtra and Goa. It originates and terminates at Mumbai and covers the tourist destinations of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Pune, Aurangabad and Nasik. The tourists are taken to the historical Jaigad and Sindhudurg forts, for the Back Water Cruise at the Tarkarli, old Goam churches, Museums and the World Heritage sites at Ajanta and Ellora.

The super luxury train provides onboard facilities for multi-cuisine dining, conference, spa, bar, gymnasium and sight seeing by air-conditioned buses.

Indian Railways and MTDC will share the revenue 50:50 till March, 2007.

Tariff for the Deccan Odyssey is in US dollar for foreign tourists and in rupees for domestic tourists. During peak season from October to March, tariff per day for single occupancy is US$ 485 or Rs. 20,00, double occupancy US$ 350 or Rs. 15,000, triple occupancy US$ 285 or Rs. 10,000, Presidential suit single US $ 950 or Rs. 40,000 and Presidential suit double US $ 700 or Rs. 30,000. During lean season from April to September tariff per day for single occupancy is US $ 395 or Rs. 15,000, double occupancy US $ 295 or Rs. 12,000, triple occupancy US $ 240 or Rs. 9,000, Presidential suit single US $ 750 or Rs. 30,000 and Presidential suit double US $ 550 or Rs. 24,000. There is a half fare for children between five and 12 years.
