A multi-pronged strategy has been adopted for augmenting capacity addition and hydro power generation in the country. Some of the policy measures and initiatives taken by the Government for incentivizing hydro power generation are finalization of investor-friendly New Hydro Policy, 2008, 50,000 MW Hydroelectric Initiative, liberal National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy, revised Mega Power Project Policy, renovation, modernization and life extension of old generating units, incentives for completion of projects ahead of schedule for higher generation/availability of plants.
