Conference on prisons to be held on Friday

The All India Conference of Ministers, Secretaries and Directors/Inspectors General in charge of Prisons will be held here on Friday. The Union Home Minister, Shri Shivraj Patil will inaugurate the Conference. It will discuss various subjects related to the management of prisons in the country, various aspects of the draft National Policy on Prison Reforms and the Scheme for Modernization of Prisons.

The agenda for the Conference includes existing statutes relating to prisons and the necessary legal reforms, prison infrastructure, correctional administration, security and discipline in prisons, service conditions of prison personnel, etc.

The participants in the Conference would include Minister of State for Home Affairs, Dr Shakeel Ahmed, Union Home Secretary, Shri Madhukar Gupta, senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) apart from Ministers, Secretaries and Directors/Inspectors General in charge of Prisons in different States and UTs.

The last Conference on prisons was held in March 2004.
