Cochin Shipyard Delivers Nine FPVs to Coast Guard
The Minister of State for Shipping, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan informed the Lok Sabha today that the Cochin Shipyard, as on 20th November, 2014, has delivered nine Fast Patrol Vessels (PSVs) to the satisfaction of Indian Coast Guard. Cochin Shipyard is currently working on the following orders placed by Ministry of Defence:
(i) Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Project (Project-71) for Indian Navy.
(ii) 20 Fast Patrol Vessel project for Indian Coast Guard.
Details of orders of Ministry of Defence at Cochin Shipyard and progress of work made so far are given below:
(i) Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Project (IAC)
The basic design of IAC has been developed by Indian Navy and the detailed design & engineering has been developed by Cochin Shipyard. As the project is developmental in nature, the ship construction is being executed in three phases. The Contract of Phase I scope of work was signed in May, 2007. With the successful launching of IAC on 12th August, 2013, scope of work as defined in Phase-I contract has been completed. Discussions on the contract for Phase II scope of work (predominantly outfitting work culminating in harbor trials of Diesel Generator sets and other auxiliaries) have been completed. Work on Phase-II scope of activities is being progressed currently at Cochin Shipyard.
(ii) 20 Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) Project for Indian Coast Guard
Cochin Shipyard secured this project on competitive bidding and the contract for constructing 20 numbers of FPVs for Indian Coast Guard was signed on 20th October, 2010 at a value of Rs. 1,509 crores. As per contract terms, Cochin Shipyard is required to deliver the first vessel in 20 months from signing the contract and subsequently one vessel is to be delivered every quarter to be culminated by June, 2017.
