Coal production shows growth

The total coal production in the country in September 2004 is estimated at 28.45 million tonnes (MT) as against 25.83 MT in the same month last year. Out of this 477 working mines of Public Sector Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 24.31 MT, 67 mines of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a joint Undertaking of Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India, produced 2.59 MT and other 16 mines contributed 1.55 MT.

The total off-take of coal during the month was 29.20 MT against 26.05 MT during September, 2003. Coal off-take by CIL increased from 22.11 MT in September, 2003 to 24.96 MT in September, 2004. The off-take of SCCL showed a marginal decrease from 2.78 MT in September, 2003 to 2.63 MT during September, 2004. Off-take from other working mines has increased from 1.16 MT to 1.61 MT.
