Clearance of new coal projects

for Ministry of Coal | Date - 21-12-2005

Lok Sabha

Coal India Limited (CIL) urged the Union Government to streamline the procedure of sanction of coal projects and also to seek the assistance of the State Government in implementation of coal projects.

On the suggestions of CIL, the project proposals costing Rs.100 crores and above approved by Government are now directly sent to Ministry without routing them through Empowered Sub Committee of CIL Board. The system of obtaining 'In-principle' clearance from Planning Commission and consideration of Project Report by Inter-Ministerial Group have been dispensed with, thus reducing the level of consideration of a project from seven to three. Representatives of coal companies have regular meetings with respective District/State officials.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Coal, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
