Cities Covered under JNNURM Scheme

The Minister of State for Urban Development, Shri Saugata Roy informed the today that the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) was launched on 3rd December, 2005 for seven years beginning from 2005-06 to 2011-12 with the objective of reforms driven and fast track development of cities across the country with focus on bringing about efficiency in urban infrastructure, service delivery mechanisms, community and accountability of Urban Local Bodies and Parastatal agencies towards citizens.

Mr. Roy informed that 65 Cities, on the basis of population as per census 2001, and State Capitals and other cities/Urban Agglomeration (UAs) of religious/historic and touristic importance have been included in Infrastructure and Governance (UIG) Sub-Missionof JnNURM.Details of cities is Annexed. All other cities are admissible for funding under scheme of Urban Infrastructure Development Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT)

He further informed that the present , there is no proposal for inclusion of new cities.
