Central University status restored to Allahabad University SEARCH COMMITTEE FORMED TO SELECT FIRST VICE-CHANCELLOR

The President has given assent to the University of Allahabad Bill, 2004 which aims at restoring Central University Status to the University of Allahabad. The University Allahabad Act, 2005 shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may by notification in the official gazette, appoint for the purpose.

The first Vice-Chancellor, under the Act will be appointed by the Central Government for a term not exceeding five years, as may be specified by the Central Government. However, for fairness and greater transparency, the Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Arjun Singh has constituted a Three-member Search Committee consisting of Justice Shri V.N. Khare, former Chief Justice of India, Shri P.D. Tandon, Senior Journalist, Allhabad and Prof. Mushirul Hassan, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia. Both justice Shri Khare and Shri Tandon are alumni of Allahabad University.
