Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), Ranchi, has developed state-of-the-art exploration technologies and have emerged as an expert agency for mineral exploration, deposit modelling, resource evaluation, mining geology, hydrogeological and geophysical studies and engineering geology for bridge, tunnels, roads, etc.

A large portion of proved reserves of about 90 billion tonnes of coal in India is a result of exploration by CMPDI since its inception. To make exploration cost and time effective, it has introduced new techniques such as photo-geology/remote sensing, non-coring drilling, multi-probe geophysical borehole logging, electrical resistivity surveys and seismic refraction survey.

Established in 1975 as a subsidiary of Coal India Limited for rendering in-house consultancy services, CMPDI has growth as the market leader in earth resource sector. A multi-disciplinary and dynamic organisation, perhaps one of its kind, has all the facilities for mineral exploration, mining, coal/mineral preparation & utilisation, environment management & monitoring and infra-structure engineering under one roof.

It has more than 800 highly skilled professionals of different disciplines that combine innovation and initiative with an accumulated experience in planning, implementation and management of projects and is equipped with modern laboratory facilities for undertaking various analytical works to supplement its services.

Today, CMPDI renders consultancy services to host of clients in India and abroad. The clients include Government and private entrepreneurs, United Nations agencies and international financial institutions. Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) has accredited ISO-9001 certificate on CMPDI for its total focus on quality of its services.

CMPDI is registered with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank and United National Development Programme. It has standing MoU with the reputed international consultants to work together in the area of earth resource sector worldwide.
