Campus Placement Scheme for Prisoners

One Hundred Ninety Five prisoners of Tihar jails were offered employment by different corporate houses in three campus placements during this year.

A prisoner offered employment during campus placement can join the job only after his release from the prison. The Prison department shortlists only such prisoners who had unblemished record of good behavior inside jail, possessing requisite educational /vocational qualification and further their sentence/judicial remand was likely to come to an end within one year.

Since “Prison” is a State subject under list II of the seventh schedule of the Constitution and, therefore, prison administration is primarily the responsibility of the State Governments.

This was stated by Minister of State for Home, Shri Mullappally Ramachandran response to a Question in Lok Sabha today.
