Master plan has been made for a broad gauge network in North Eastern States. Broad features of this plan are:
(1) Connectivity to all State capitals.
(2) Unigauge Broadgauge network.
(3) Strengthening international borders.
(4) Augmentation of network capacity for handling growth of traffic in future.
(5) Expansion of network to unconnected areas of the region.
(6) Improving trade and connectivity with neighbouring countries.
Time frame to connect with Trans-Asia Railway Network has not been fixed due to a number of missing links in and outside India.
